Warning Signs Your Vehicle Requires Transmission Servicing

Blog

For your vehicle to stay in optimum condition, it needs to be taken for routine car servicing. However, this does not imply that if problems arise before your car is due for servicing they should be ignored. A mistake some people make is overlooking the symptoms of a transmission system that is in decline, assuming that the vehicle will be able to stay functional until it is taken for a service. The reality is neglecting to seek a transmission tune up at the onset of problems would lead to expensive repairs and even complete malfunction of your transmission system. So what are some of the warning signs that would imply your vehicle requires transmission servicing?

Odd vibrations when shifting gears

The process of shifting gears should be smooth and fluid when your vehicle is in good condition. If your vehicle's transmission has become compromised, you will start to experience odd vibrations whenever you are trying to shift your gears. These vibrations come about due to decreased transmission fluid, which leads to excessive friction between the components of the system. Other symptoms that may accompany the odd vibrations include jerking motions from your vehicle as well as resistance when you are trying to shift gears.

The acrid smell of burning

One thing to note about your transmission fluid is that it is not supposed to burn. Therefore, if you start to smell burning odours in your vehicle when attempting to shift gears, it most likely means you have an undetected transmission fluid leak that needs to be addressed post haste. If a transmission leak remains undetected, it could cause irreparable damage to your vehicle. Not only would your transition system be running without proper lubrication, but also the leaking fluid will start to burn off the surface of the engine and other internal components.

The gears slip spontaneously

When driving, you are supposed to have complete control over the movement of your vehicle. If you start to find that your gears keep shifting spontaneously, then you have a transmission problem on your hands. The slipping of the gears may be accompanied by whining noises coming from your transmission system, too. Gears that keep slipping is not merely irritating; if this is not remedied as soon as possible, you will become a risk to other road users as well as be putting your own safety at risk. It should be noted that slipping gears tends to be common in automatic transmission systems, so if you have an automatic vehicle, you should be extra vigilant.

I also need my car to be serviced quickly as I am very limited in how much I can get around without it. This blog has some tips on how to find a car servicing company that will suit you if driving a disability-modified car.
